This legislation is aimed at remedying chronic workforce shortages among many of the allied health professions such as medical technology that have been accompanied in recent years by a decline in student applications and enrollments. This deteriorating situation compromises the ability of the nation to provide high quality health care to its citizens at a time when demand for services will continue to increase because of the growth in the older portion of the population.
