Background and Aspirations

I received a bachelor degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Lagos in Nigeria in 1994, master and doctoral degrees in Neuromotor Rehabilitation from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Catholic University of Leuven) in Belgium in 2000 and 2004 respectively, a master degree in Public Health and a master degree in Business Administration from Augusta University in 2012 and 2015 respectively.

My clinical and research expertise are in the assessment and rehabilitation of visual and cognitive functions in neurological conditions, especially in applied contexts such as driving and community ambulation using simulators and other virtual reality technologies. My research interests have attracted funding in excess of $14 million and have resulted in over 90 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts published in reputable international journals with high impact factors. I am a member of the Simulation and Measurement of Vehicles and Operator Performance Committee of the Transportation Research Board. In 2007, I served on a 3-member Medical Expert Panel on Stroke and Commercial Truck Driving of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration that wrote the “Current guidelines for commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers in the US to return to driving after a TIA or stroke”. I am a recipient of the 2013-2014 Fulbright Scholar Award to Nigeria and a 2016 Fulbright Specialist Award to Iceland. I currently serve as a member of the 4-person peer review committee for Fulbright grant applications to West and Central Africa.

My aspirations for the Association include working with the leadership of ASAHP to achieve the association’s mission and visions, contribute to the professional growth of health professions in general, increase professional and institutional networks between health professionals, and promote international collaborations with other institutions of health professions outside the US.
