Background and Aspirations

I have been involved with ASAP since 2013.  I was a member of the ASAHP Leadership Development Class of 2013. My career has been positively impacted by the experience.  I was part of the organizational and mentorship team for the Leadership Development Class of 2016. The experience was immensely rewarding and I met a number of future allied health leaders.  I’ve attended ASAHP annual and spring meetings since 2013.  I was the driving force behind Georgia State University and the Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions becoming an Institution member again after more than a 10-year hiatus.

The Lewis School and GSU has sponsored the Spring 2014 (Atlanta) and Spring 2015 conference (South Carolina).  GSU is proud to continue our sponsorship with ASAHP. I have been a member of the ASAHP Advocacy committee since 2013. As part of the committee we have worked on advocacy priorities and strategies for ASAHP.  As a result member of our committee have produced one poster and two manuscripts.  In my role as Associate Dean of the Lewis School of Nursing and Health Professions at GSU I will continue to advocate for new membership in ASAHP.  I believe ASAHP has unique opportunities that individual Allied Health Professional organizations do not (ie. APTA, AOTA, etc).  ASAHP can become a leader in advocating for all Allied Health Professions.  I also believe ASAP can become leaders in promoting Inter-professional Education.  I have attended all of the Nominations & Elections committee meetings since my election to the committee.  Under the leadership of Teri Stumbo the committee has: Reviewed by-laws/police and procedures, Created a Guideline for the committee, Created a timeline for the committee to do its work, established talking points for recruitment for open positions, worked with Jacoby on updating the application form (included dates, link to form on website), discussed recruitment strategies, advertised/promoted for open positions, discussed ways to utilize the ASAHP webpage to promote open positions, initiated calls to members encouraging them to apply for open positions, and brought miscellaneous items foreword to the BOD from the nomination & elections committee. It would be my honor to serve a second term on the Nominations & Elections Committee.  Thank you for your consideration.
