The U.S. Census Bureau reports that real median household income increased by 3.2% between 2015 and 2016, while the official poverty rate decreased 0.8 percentage points. At the same time, the percentage of individuals without health insurance coverage decreased. Median household income in the United States in 2016 was $59,039. The nation’s official poverty rate in 2016 was 12.7%, with 40.6 million persons in poverty.
