Background and Aspirations
I have been an allied health dean at three institutions for over 20 years. I have actively participated in ASAHP over that time as the organization has grown and responded to the changing environment of health care. I have had prior terms on the Board of Directors that have given me the opportunity to help guide ASAHP as an essential organization for allied health and health professions education, research and, ultimately, practice. The experience on the board is very rewarding and I eagerly seek re-election to continue that rewarding work.
Currently I serve on the Board of Directors of the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). I also serve on the Board of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors (ASPA). In this role I also am a member of the Health Professions Accreditors Collaborative (HPAC), which is a form for accreditors to discuss relevant trends and formulate accreditation context for these areas. My participation in these organizations will allow me to bring insight into accreditation, as well as an understanding of interactions between accreditation and the Department of Education, to the board. I participated in the ASAHP strategic planning process several years ago. The 2012 plan helped establish ASAHP as an important organization in several arenas including, but not limited to, IPE, accreditation and government relations. Those original areas of focus have led to ASAHP assuming important positions in IPE, accreditation and global initiatives, to name a few. I look forward to continued strategic thinking and planning as we continue to grow in our strategic initiatives.
