Lori Stewart Gonzalez
Dean
College of Health Sciences, University of Kentucky

I have served as Dean of the College of Health Sciences at the University of Kentucky since January 2005 and have been on the faculty in the Division of Communication Sciences and Disorders since 1991. My first experience with ASAHP was in 1999 when I participated in the Coalition for Allied Health Leadership. It was after this experience that I recognized that I would have greater influence on policy and later on the academic programs in allied health if I became active at the national level. In 2006, along with three dean colleagues and with ASAHP's financial support, we initiated the ASHAP Faculty Development Program. This spring marked the third year this has been offered to faculty and administrators at ASAHP member schools. We have also offered one session for students. Our goal is to positively influence the next generation of leaders in allied health education. In 2008, I was honored by the association with induction into the Fellows program. I find this organization to be a wonderful resource for information, connections, and support. Given the challenges we will face in the next few years, it is more important than ever that the members of ASAHP bring our collective voices together to focus on these issues. We can continue to work through the Association to develop successful strategies for dealing with the complex issues of our society. Through my past service on the Board of Directors, I have worked to move the agenda of the Association forward to strengthen both the Association and our individual members.
