Celia R. Hooper
Dean
School of Health and Human Performance, University of North Carolina Greensboro

Although we do not have a medical school or a school of health sciences at UNCG, I convinced the provost and three other deans to join ASAHP two years ago to strengthen and connect our various health professions into one unified campus group. It has made a dramatic difference on our campus, and our many allied health programs have gained a new respect. As someone who has worked in and out of academia, and in a medical school, a college of arts and sciences and a professional school, I know how important the “allied health” label and affiliation can be for those of us in nontraditional settings. From my work in my own disciplinary organizations (ASHA, CAPCSD, NBASLH), I know how important diversity and inclusion can be for leaders in the organization, including committees, boards and officers. As a member of the nominations and elections committee, I would be committed to finding a diverse group of professionals to help our ASAHP leaders achieve even more for the organization. I am also committed to having representation for all types of academic institutions. I value the unique contribution that members from each type can make to ASAHP. Finally, I join other members in supporting the new initiatives of ASAHP, including the focus on advocacy and research in our professions.
