Linda Seestedt-Stanford
Dean
College of Health and Human Sciences, Western Carolina University

In my 25 years as a teacher/clinician in higher education I was fortunate to have been part of many multi-disciplinary teams. Through these connections I learned to think differently, and approach my patients, students and scholarship with a new and varied set of “lenses”. I gained insight into various professions and discovered the common challenges and opportunities we share. Having had these experiences prepared me well for a higher education administration position.
As dean of a diverse college, with one of our key missions focused on community engagement, the need for multi-disciplinary connections is critical to developing innovative and meaningful curriculum, programs and research. The Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions plays a significant role in supporting health related programs by engendering this multi-disciplinary perspective, supporting institutions in identifying resources, and providing a forum for discussion on topics central to the management, quality and growth of health related programs. The role of ASAHP will continue to expand as we collectively weather these tough economic times and endeavor to identify “best practice” strategies for securing our programs and our future.
