Halcyon St. Hill, Ed.D. MLS(ASCP)CM FASAHP holds a doctorate from Rutgers University, a Master of Science in Microbiology from the Waksman Institute also at Rutgers University, and a B.S. Health Sciences, with a major in Clinical Laboratory Science from Hunter College. Dr. St. Hill served as the Faculty Senate President and as a member of the Board of Trustees of Florida Gulf Coast University for two terms from 2007 to 2009; she serves as the immediate Past President of the Faculty Senate and is currently a Professor of Health Sciences at Florida Gulf Coast University.
Dr. St. Hill started at FGCU in 1996 as Associate Professor and the Assistant Dean for the College of Health Professions and Founding Chair of Interdisciplinary Studies (renamed the Division of Health Sciences) and the Health Sciences Programs. She is well known for her work in her areas of expertise through her scholarship and leadership in the professional arena as well as service to her community. Her many intellectual contributions are peer reviewed or by invitation. They include professional standards documents used in laboratory medicine nationally and internationally, and presentations of her work in prestigious arenas including Oxford University in the UK. Her successes in scholarship are also marked by successful attainment of external and internal grant funds from competitive sources including HRSA, Department of Health and Human Services.
Dr. St. Hill served on the Nominations and Education Committees for Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP). Currently, Dr. St. Hill serves on the ASAHP Accreditation Committee and the Geriatric Education Committee for the Association of Gerontology for Higher Education (AGHE). Her activities at the regional level include serving on the Alvin A. Dubin Alzheimer's Resource Center Advisory Board and the SouthWest Florida End of Life Coalition. She is the Treasurer and the Scholarship Chair for the Florida Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (FLSCLS) and serves as Chair for the Generalist and Public Health Scientific Assembly for the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (ASCLS). Her service at the international level is recognized in her role as advisor for the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CSLI). She is also known for her work in and specialized accreditation for the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS), as well as institutional accreditation.
Dr. St. Hill is the recipient of many prestigious awards for her teaching, scholarship and service. Her most recent awards include recognition with national distinction as a 2009 Fellow of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (FASAHP) for her outstanding leadership and contributions to health professions. She is the recipient of the 2009 McTarnaghan Teaching Award from the FGCU Student Government, the 2009 several Omicron Sigma Awards from the ASCLS and FSCLS and the 2008 FGCU Excellence in Service Award.
