James D. Blagg, Jr., Ph.D., FASAHP has been a continuous member of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions (ASAHP) since 1980. He has served on, or chaired, numerous ASAHP committees, primarily those related to education, research, public relations, annual meeting planning, and equal representation. He served six years on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Allied Health and currently serves as a peer reviewer for that publication. He was elected a Fellow of ASAHP in 2002 and was awarded in 2003 the ASAHP Cultural Pluralism Award for his work in extending allied health and nursing education to American Indian tribes in Arizona.
In addition to his service to ASAHP, Dr. Blagg has served as a regional accreditation site visitor for the Northeastern Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and as a specialized programmatic site visitor for the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. He has served as an advisory board committee member for a variety of educational programs and agencies. Of particular note are the Advisory Committee for the Northeast Allied Health Leadership Project (SUNY Buffalo), the Health Care Advisory Committee of the Honorable Porter Goss (U.S. Congressman, Fort Myers, FL), the Allied Health Career Development Coalition of Southwest Florida, the Healthcare Institute Advisory Board of the Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association, and the National Advisory Board of the High Altitude Sports Training Complex (Flagstaff, AZ). Dr. Blagg was one of five individuals selected from a national pool to serve as a Kellogg Allied Health Fellow at the University of Washington. He has been an active member of Alpha Eta, the National Scholarship Society in Allied Health, serving as chapter liaison at national meetings, as a member of the Board of Directors, and as Chair of the Rodenberg Scholarship Committee. Dr. Blagg has published articles and refereed abstracts, and presented papers and posters, in the areas of individual differences (diversity, cognitive styles, personality styles) and on-campus and distance delivered allied health educational programs..
Dr. Blagg currently serves Director of the BS in Health Sciences and Professor of Health Sciences at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS). Prior to his current assignment, Dr. Blagg served as Dean of the College of Health Professions at Northern Arizona University, Founding Dean of the College of Health Professions at Florida Gulf Coast University, and Dean of the College of Nursing and Health Professions at Arkansas State University. The hallmarks of his career at these institutions have been development and implementation of new allied health programs, and delivery of programming via distance education or program replication at distance sites for populations unable to study at the home campus.
Dr. Blagg received his Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from the University of Washington, a M.Ed. in Cultural Foundations of Education from the University of Utah, and a B.S. in Biology from Memphis State University (now the University of Memphis).
