Peggy Valentine, Ph.D., FASAHP |
Dr. Peggy Valentine is Dean of the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University (WSSU), overseeing educational programs in Nursing, Clinical Laboratory Science, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy. She has served as Principal Investigator for many national and international projects, including the Malawi Project – University Technical Assistance Program, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Global AIDS Program, and the Zimbabwe Project funded by the World AIDS Foundation. Her clinical experiences include registered nurse and physician assistant. She received the Doctor of Education Degree from Virginia Tech, the Master of Arts Degree and Bachelor of Science Degree from Howard University. She is listed in “Who’s Who of American Women,” and was honored as “Educator of the Year” by the American Academy of Physician Assistants in 1997. She was elected Fellow in the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions in 2003. The Howard University Faculty Senate honored her for “Outstanding Contributions to the African Diaspora” in 2005.
Dr. Valentine has conducted research on homeless and minority issues. She has lectured extensively on minority HIV/AIDS issues to professional and lay groups nationally and internationally. She has published in refereed journals, textbooks, and HIV/AIDS training manuals, and currently serves as Editor in Chief for the Best Practices in Health Professions Diversity Journal. She is past President of the National Society of Allied Health and serves on the board of directors for that organization. Other community service activities include secretary and board member for the SG Atkins Community Development Corporation, Sci-Works Board, Hospice and Palliative Care Board, all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Dr. Valentine is secretary/treasurer and member of the Board of Trustees for Novant Health Systems.
