Rodger Marion, Ph.D., FASAHP Distinguished Teaching Professor |
Rodger Marion, Ph.D. (as of November 2011) is Distinguished Teaching Professor and Professor Emeritus, School of Health Professions; Senior Fellow, Sealy Center on Aging; and graduate faculty in Preventive Medicine and Community Health, University of Texas Medical Branch. Also, he is Adjunct Professor of Informatics, School of Biomedical Information Sciences, University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He has been a faculty member since 1977 and was an assistant dean for educational technology, research and academic affairs.
He was the principle investigator for four training grants (1991-2006) from the Bureau of Health Professions supporting the development of computer-based and web-based health education activities. He began teaching online graduate courses in 1999. In 2010, he was voted as the outstanding visionary in distance education at the Innovations in Online Education Conference.
Currently, he is the Technical Support Core Leader on a training grant in the UTMB Sealy Center on Aging dealing with online geriatric education for rural health care providers. In an effort to utilize social media more in geriatric education we have established a Facebook page and a weekly blog, Update on Aging (http://tinyurl.com/6xsakyg and http://rodgermarion.wordpress.com).
Rodger also works with a group in the Texas Hill Country to develop and produce motion pictures. His latest film was released in November 2011 and may be followed at http://impassethemovie.com.
