John A. Sigg, PhD

Current Position

Acting Dean, School of Health Sciences and Human Performance
Ithaca College
953 Danby Rd.
Ithaca, NY14850

Background and Aspirations

I have been at Ithaca College for 24 years; 17 years on faculty before moving into administration where I have served as both the Associate Dean and Acting Dean since 2010. This has given me a greater understanding and appreciation for the role academic institutions play in preparing allied health professionals to meet the needs of the rapidly changing health care environment.  Through my involvement in ASAHP over the past several years, I have come to value the role of the organization in fostering excellence in all aspects of allied health education.  In 2011, I was fortunate enough to be selected to participate in the ASAHP Leadership Development Program.  This experience not only helped me become a better leader at Ithaca College, but also gave me an inside look at the collaboration and networking opportunities within ASAHP which solidified my desire to become more involved in the organization.

Through my early involvement in this organization, I have come to appreciate the dedication and passion demonstrated by the board and the general membership of ASAHP. As stated in the mission, our members promote “health through excellence in interprofessional education, collaboration, leadership, research, and advocacy”. This mission statement aligns with my personal and professional values, and I would like to contribute to the continued success of ASAHP.  It is my opinion that ASAHP is and will continue to be on the forefront of issues that impact allied health education and practice.  The work that is being done by our member institutions and the dissemination of that information to the membership has been noteworthy.  However, as in all things, we cannot rest on our past accomplishments.  I am confident that the current and future leaders of this organization will continue to guide us towards the goals outlined in our strategic plan and I hope to play a role in these efforts.
