Jon W. Williamson, Ph.D.
Dean, School of Health Professions
UT Southwestern Medical Center

Background and Aspirations
With some very good mentoring (and luck), I have been able to navigate a more traditional academic career pathway; receiving a Ph.D. in physiology, completing post-doctoral training in neurophysiology, working as faculty member in physical therapy, doing NIH funded rehabilitation research, and receiving tenure. As my institutional responsibilities evolved, I have had the opportunity to lead a department, become an administrator, complete a master’s in administrative & management science, sustain external funding of ~$2 million/year, oversee the school’s clinical enterprise, and serve as a Dean. Based on these experiences, I truly value the diverse group of disciplines represented by ASAHP and strongly believe we have cumulative skills and knowledge needed to take a lead role in the transformation of healthcare. There is great opportunity for us to better advocate for interprofessional education and practice for all health care providers (e.g. best practice models & training programs), develop partnerships with diverse, like-minded organizations (e.g. American College of Sports Medicine) to help increase both our visibility and research opportunities, and further involve our students in the national organization (e.g. developing our future leaders / building sustainability). I am very appreciative of the opportunities that I have been provided and will to continue to ‘pay it forward’ as best I can. I am excited to continue my service to ASAHP and thank you for your consideration.
