2004 Strategic Plan

Recognizing the importance of a strong strategic plan, the Board of Directors has spent considerable time updating and clarifying the Association's Mission and Goals. The Board of Directors would like to invite all members of the Association to review and comment on the Association's revised Strategic Plan before its final release. I. GOAL: TO INFLUENCE GOVERNMENTAL HEALTH AND EDUCATION POLICY
ACTION PLANS MEASURABLE OUTCOMES
1.1 Through collaboration with other associations, lobby Congress to pass the Allied Health Reinvestment Act

AH Reinvestment Act passed

1.2 Conduct an ASAHP Spring Meeting, which will include a Government Relations Forum in Washington, DC every year and invite members from key areas and states. 60% of deans / directors from member institutions will have attended an ASAHP government forum with a Hill visit by 2007
1.3 Evaluate the impact of new federal health regulations on allied health education and seek to influence them when appropriate. Submit comments on proposed regulations
1.4 Nominate ASAHP members to serve on key governmental health and education committees/groups. Appointments occur

 

II. GOAL: TO PROMOTE HIGH QUALITY EDUCATION
ACTION PLANS MEASURABLE OUTCOMES
2.1 Identify, disseminate, and promote best practices and innovations in allied health professions education

Identify practices and innovations, share findings through presentations, papers, web site

2.2 Provide allied health schools with information to measure the quality, outcomes, effectiveness and efficiency of their goal-related activities

Produce national data for use by members: Institutional Profile, Benchmark data. Compile resources for quality assessment design. Initial mechanisms and data to be used for assessment.

2.3 Identify, disseminate, and promote interdisciplinary education

Identify activity, create links on Web, showcase examples at meetings, newsletters

2.4 Promote the use of cost effective, value-added, and evidence-based outcomes as standards for specialized accreditation agencies. Present examples of value added and evidence-based outcomes to allied health accreditation agencies for discussion
2.5 Increase communication between ASAHP and regional accrediting Associations Convene meeting of regional accrediting associations with key allied health accrediting agencies, e.g. CAPTE, ADA, CAAHEP
2.6 Encourage the inclusion of information technology in allied health education

Provide examples of national reports, provide examples of current use, relate technology to quality and error reduction

2.7 Serve as a conduit for information to members on activities related to Healthy People 2010 Collect information on related actions in member schools
2.8 Increase fund raising for scholarships $150,000 in corpus by 2005

 

III. GOAL: TO PROMOTE COLLABORATION AND PARTNERSHIPS

3.4 Create a liaison with selected advocacy and consumer organizations.

4.1 Provide a forum at meetings of ASAHP for research and scholarly posters, platform presentations, and workshops

Meetings of ASAHP will exhibit scholarship related to allied health. Record the number of presentations and posters and number of submissions each year.

4.2 Identify or sponsor workshops or seminars, which strengthen research and scholarship At least one seminar or workshop a year at the annual conference
4.3 Conduct a feasibility study of an organizational presence for allied health within NIH and CDC Plan with recommendations to the Board of Directors

 

V. GOAL: TO DEVELOPMENT ACADEMIC LEADERS

5.1 Plan, develop, and offer an annual workshop on leadership development

Educate / train at least 25 administrators and faculty with leadership skills to be assessed by participant evaluation forms
