Background and Aspirations
As Dean of the College of Health Professions at Texas State University since 2003, I have recognized the importance of ASAHP’s institutional membership. Institutional membership has provided numerous opportunities to network with allied health professionals nation-wide, engage in leadership development, and participate in advocacy strategies for the recognition of the health professions. I have participated in the activities of ASAHP making presentations, serving on committees, and representing the membership as a Board of Director, 2008-2011. I was elected Secretary in 2015 for a term that expires this year. ASAHP Fellow recognition was received in 2011. My commitment to the education of healthcare professionals has focused both in the healthcare delivery practice setting and in the higher education academic setting with over $9 million dollars in funded research, in addition to extensive professional and community service activities.
My aspirations for the Association are to support the foundation of ASAHP and include: working with ASAHP to represent the allied health professions through legislative, policy and service activities; identifying leadership strategies to close the gaps in the educational pipeline for the preparation of allied health professionals; advancing the research and scholarly activities as they relate to the allied health professions; exploring with the membership specific activities and programs to promote the health of individuals and groups along with disease prevention; creating the attractiveness of academic leadership roles for allied health educators; and, continuing the advocacy efforts through the Allied Health PAC. I am pleased to be nominated as Secretary of ASAHP and am prepared to perform the acts and duties assigned to this office.
