Primer On The Higher Education Act

Both the House and Senate have started work on reauthorizing the Higher Education Act (HEA), the nation's main law governing postsecondary education. Federal law requires the HEA to be renegotiated every five years, but it has been running on a series of temporary extensions since 2013. It was last renewed in 2008. As events unfold in 2018, it will be useful to be familiar with various aspects of this law. A Primer from the Congressional Research Service (CRS) should prove helpful in that respect.

The Primer can be obtained at https://fas.org/sgp/crs/misc/R43351.pdf
