ASAHP Board Member Spotlight: Leslee Battle, EdD

Our next board member spotlight is our new Leslee Battle, EdD. Dr. Battle is in her first term of a Director on ASAHP’s Board of Directors with her term through October 2025. In addition to her role on the Board, Dr. Battle serves as the Dean of the School of Health Sciences at Winston-Salem State University.

We sat down with Dr. Battle to learn more about her:

  • How long have you been in your position?  July 1, 2022  (Interim July 1, 2020)

  • What’s the value of education in the health professions? Education in the health professions is invaluable as it equips individuals with the necessary knowledge and skills to provide quality healthcare, ensuring the well-being of individuals and communities.

  • What is the value of ASAHP?  ASAHP is dedicated to fostering interprofessional collaboration, exemplary leadership, and the advancement of health professions education. These pillars serve as the foundation for all health sciences programs, positioning ASAHP as a pivotal force in supporting the growth of faculty and academic leaders across various programs.

  • What are you looking forward to during your ASAHP board tenure? I am looking forward to being part of a dynamic team committed to advancing health professions. More specifically, making impactful contributions such as being involved with strategic decision making, networking, staying informed and my own personal and professional development. 

  • Your philosophy on education in 5 words: Meet people where they are.

  • Before I retire I want to: As a Dean of Health Sciences I would like to leave a legacy of positive change.

  • My favorite trip was: Montego BayJamaica-  The Palladium All Inclusive Resort

  • 4 people I’d take to coffee or have a glass of wine with:  Michelle Obama,  General Colin Powell (deceased), Kamala Harris

  • The best advice I ever received was: When beginning a new leadership position, while gauging the trustworthiness of individuals on your team, it is good to trust but also initially verify.

  • My hobby is: Shopping for bargains

  • Only my friends know I: grew up with the nickname Tee Tee

  • My favorite saying is:  Leadership is solving problems. The day soldiers stop bringing you their problems is the day you have stopped leading them. They have either lost confidence that you can help or concluded you do not care. Either case is a failure of leadership.  ~Colin Powell
