ASAHP’s 2024 Regional Summit Promotes Dialogue Between Academic Institutions and Health Care Industry Partners to Improve Collaboration and Enhance Health Outcomes

Washington, D.C. - The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) announced that its fourth annual Regional Summit will take place across the country on May 23, 2024. The theme of the 2024 Summit, “Collaboration in Action - Engaging to Build Readiness for Interprofessional Clinical Practice,” aims to identify new strategies for collaboration between the healthcare industry and academic partners. ASAHP’s Regional Summits bring together academic leaders, faculty and health care providers from a variety of professional roles, disciplines, and organizations to share knowledge and best practices with the goal of improving the patient care experience and health outcomes as well as addressing clinician well-being, and health equity.

The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) is dedicated to promoting dialogue between academic institutions and their health care industry partners to improve collaboration and enhance health outcomes. Yearly ASAHP Summits bring together leaders, faculty and providers in-person concurrently at member institution “hubs” which culminate in a virtual “harvest” session between hub participants who engage in a national-level conversation.

Call for Proposals - Interprofesional Innovation Grant Program

The Interprofessional Committee (IPC) of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) developed the Interprofessional Innovation Grant (IIG) Program to provide support for interprofessional collaboration research among the ASAHP membership. The intent is to provide recipients a competitive edge in securing additional funding by supporting pilot projects and further developing grantsmanship skill sets. The intent of the IIG Program is that proposals submitted can be used to develop larger, more extensive interprofessional research projects that further engage faculty and ASAHP members in research endeavors.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE: Faculty at ASAHP Institutions in good standing

AWARD AMOUNT: We expect to fund 3 awards up to $2,000 per award

PROJECT PERIOD: September 1, 2024 to June 30, 2025

GRANT PERIOD: Up to 9 months

Applications Now Open for ASAHP's Annual Interprofessional Award

Through the Award for Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care, ASAHP looks to recognize a member institution and/or industry member for outstanding achievement in IPE and IPCP. In addition to the award, several institutions will also be recognized as “Programs of Merit” by ASAHP.

Candidates for this award must be ASAHP members and should demonstrate outstanding achievement in the following areas:

  1. Initiatives are inclusive and comprehensive in scope in the preparation of collaboration-ready health professionals.

  2. Initiatives are strongly committed to assessment of outcomes and dissemination of scholarship.

  3. Initiatives are strongly connected to their Institution’s mission and culture.

  4. Initiatives are connected to external stakeholders in the community.

  5. Initiatives promote personal, community and population health.

  6. Initiatives advocate for social justice and address social determinants of health.

The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions hosted its 4th Annual ASAHP Regional Summit hosted by ASAHP’s Interprofessional Committee This year’s theme focused on “Joining Forces to Build a Resilient, Collaborative and Practice-Ready Healthcare Workforce” and sought to promote dialogue between academic institutions and their health care industry partners to improve collaboration and enhance health outcomes.

ASAHP Announces 2023 Regional Summits Across The U.S. Focusing On Collaborative Workforce Development

Washington, D.C. -  The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) announced today that it will present the 2023 ASAHP Regional Summits on May 25, 2023 with a theme of “Joining Forces to Build a Resilient, Collaborative and Practice-Ready Healthcare Workforce.” These annual in-person summits bring together academic institutions and their health care industry partners to promote dialogue, improve collaboration, and enhance health outcomes. 

Held in-person concurrently at member institution-hosted “Hubs,” the Summits will culminate in a virtual “harvest” session between Hub participants who engage in a national-level conversation. ASAHP is expanding the 2023 Regional Summits to include six unique Hub site locations across the U.S. In 2022, ASAHP expanded the Regional Summits to three Hub locations; prior to that, the annual event took place in a single location. Each Hub will include an opportunity for dialogue and action between multiple stakeholders from academia and the healthcare industry to discuss improvements to clinical education. The Summits are designed to create specific strategies to enhance health professions education and improve the health of individuals and communities.

The in-person Regional Summit Hubs will take place on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 12:00 Noon - 4:30 pm (ET)/11:00 am - 3:30 pm (CT)/10:00 am - 2:30 pm (MT) at the following six Hub site locations:

  • HUB: Nutley, New Jersey - Seton Hall University's School of Health and Medical Sciences Interprofessional Health Sciences (IHS) Campus. 

  • HUB: Layton, Utah - Weber State University’s Dumke College of Health Professions and University of Utah’s College of Health    

  • HUB: Houston, Texas - University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), and University of Texas Health Science Center at School of Allied Health Sciences in San Antonio    

  • HUB: Ft. Lauderdale, Florida - Nova Southeastern University

  • HUB: Cincinnati, Ohio - University of Cincinnati

  • HUB: Sioux Falls, South Dakota - University of South Dakota

ASAHP Announces Recipients of the 2022 Interprofessional Innovation Grant Program

The Interprofessional Task Force (IPTF) of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) is pleased to announce that Bowling Green State University, Seton Hall University, and University of Alabama at Birmingham are the three recipients of its 2022 Interprofessional Innovation Grant Program.

ASAHP Recognizes University Members With 2022 Excellence in Interprofessional Collaboration Award

Washington, D.C. – The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) is pleased to announce that The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and Winston-Salem State University are co-recipients of ASAHP’s 2022 Award for Institutional Excellence and Innovation in Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Health Care. In addition, two member institutions, Duquesne University and the University of Oklahoma, received the Program of Merit for their submissions. The recipients will be recognized and present their award-winning programs in October at the 2022 ASAHP Annual Conference in Long Beach, CA.  In addition, the recipients will participate in a panel discussion webinar in November.

“Through the innovation and dedication of our multidisciplinary member institutions, ASAHP continues to lead the way in interprofessional health education (IPE) and practice (IPCP). We are proud to be a collaborative resource and advocate for our membership who serve students, faculty, professional accrediting bodies, and practitioners through instruction, research and service,” said ASAHP President Deb Larsen, PhD, FASAHP. “Congratulations to The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and Winston-Salem State University for their outstanding achievement in IPE and IPCP.”

The Winston-Salem State University School of Health Sciences team is led by University Professor and Interim Dean LesLee Battle, EdD who said, “We are honored to receive this award and believe it is a testament to the value of incorporating Interprofessional Education (IPE) into our curriculum. Our committed faculty has worked hard to ensure that the next generation of health science students enters the workforce with the knowledge, skills and attitude to provide meaningful quality healthcare through team collaboration.”

The team at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio is led by  Dr. Jacqueline Mok, Vice President for Academic, Faculty and Student Affairs. Dr. Mok praised the work of stakeholders across the institution for the success of Linking Interprofessional Networks for Collaboration (LINC) and added, “This award is testament to the university-wide infrastructure we have developed through the LINC program under the leadership of director, Dr. Joseph Zorek. LINC has been successful due to the strong commitment to interprofessional collaboration and buy-in at all levels from our executive leadership team to Deans to faculty, staff and students from all five of our schools.”

Regional Summit from ASAHP Brings New Collaboration between Academia and Healthcare Professionals

Washington, D.C. - June 22, 2022 - - The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) announced that the June 3 Regional Summit held simultaneously across the country resulted in unprecedented engagement and collaboration between academic institutions and healthcare organizations joining together to create actions that will yield better health outcomes for patients.

Deadline Extended - Interprofessional Innovation Grant Program

The Interprofessional Task Force (IPTF) of the Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) developed the Interprofessional Innovation Grant (IIG) Program to provide support for interprofessional collaboration research among the ASAHP membership. The intent is to provide recipients a competitive edge in securing additional funding by supporting pilot projects and further developing grantsmanship skill sets. The intent of the IIG Program is that proposals submitted can be used to develop larger, more extensive interprofessional research projects that further engage faculty and ASAHP members in research endeavors. The IPTF expects to fund 3 awards up to $2,000 per award for projects between September 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. Deadline to apply is June 10, 2022 (extended from June 1).

Invitation: ASAHP Regional Summit Virtual Harvest

With innovations in interprofessional education and practice along with the recent changes in healthcare, there is a need to reconsider health professions clinical education. The 2022 ASAHP Regional Summits will provide an opportunity for dialogue and action between representatives in academia and the healthcare industry to discuss improvements to clinical education.

The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) is hosting the 2022 ASAHP Regional Summit on June 3, 2022. The Summit will be in-person at each of the hubs, and registration is limited. The Summit culminates where all 4 hub sites convene in a virtual "Harvest" session consensus event designed to continue the local dialogue on a national level. 

ASAHP members unable to attend in-person are invited to join the virtual harvest session from 4:30pm-5:15pm ET to hear about the key takeaways from each hub and national trends. Learn more about the Summit here.

For the first time, ASAHP will be holding these Regional Summits concurrently in four unique hub site locations across the U.S., as opposed to the one location they have hosted in previous years. Each location will feature an in-person opportunity for dialogue and action between multiple stakeholders from academia and the healthcare industry to discuss improvements to clinical education. These summits are designed to create specific strategies to enhance health professions education and improve the health of individuals and communities.
