Advocate Health seeks a distinguished academic executive to serve as the inaugural President for the newly planned college resulting from the integration of Cabarrus College of Health Sciences in Concord, North Carolina (Cabarrus College), and Carolinas College of Health Sciences in Charlotte, North Carolina (Carolinas College).
Atrium Health, a recognized leader in nursing and health sciences education and a member of Advocate Health, has a long history of producing highly skilled nursing and allied health professionals through these two esteemed and high performing institutions: Each college is well-respected in academic and health care fields and both are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). This is an outstanding opportunity for a leader to integrate the strengths of two successful institutions and expand its impact across one of the nation's largest and most innovative health systems. The incoming President will initially be hired as the President of Cabarrus College, and subsequently serve as the inaugural President of the combined institution.
To create a shared vision for the future, leadership from the academic enterprise of Advocate Health and the Boards of Directors of both colleges have initiated a period of discovery to explore the combination of the two colleges into one unified institution to be part of the engine for the National Academic Model in workforce and education innovation across Advocate Health. Combining Cabarrus College and Carolinas College will enable an integrated vision for health care education across Advocate Health, ensuring consistent and high-quality content and delivery. The combination will enhance student, financial, and administrative services, provide more support for operational models on a larger scale and strengthen the institutions' identities. Additionally, it would bolster branding and marketing capabilities, streamline accreditation processes, and expand opportunities for students and staff as part of Advocate Health’s National Academic Model.
Reporting to a Governing Board and Advocate Health leadership, the inaugural President will provide overall operational leadership and vision for the College's strategic initiatives to strengthen nursing and allied health educational programs. The President serves as the senior executive, leading operations through efficient utilization of all resources, including but not limited to: personnel, finances, and facilities. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a visionary leader to build on the successes of Carolinas College and Cabarrus College and create a unified program that enhances community-based care and develops the next generation of health sciences professionals. During this transformative period, the President will work to create a strong, collective culture within the College, bringing together multidisciplinary people and programs with a shared vision and purpose.
The President will serve as a strong advocate for the College, advancing its reputation and visibility locally, regionally, and nationally. The President will foster collaborative partnerships with Advocate Health, as well as other programs of health sciences, health care organizations, and institutions of higher learning. The successful candidate will be a person of high integrity with a record of successful, dynamic, and strategic leadership who is courageous, a risk taker, and able to build coalitions and work collaboratively.
The President, working with the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and Advocate Health, will provide intellectual leadership and a strategic sense of the future of health sciences education so that the new College can assume a prominent role in addressing the workforce needs of the greater Charlotte community and the broader Advocate network.
Applicants will posses a Master's degree. A Doctorate in an appropriate field is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate expertise in the individual's discipline in higher education. Additionally, the successful candidate should align with the mission of the organization and have experience developing collaborative initiatives along with the personal characteristics needed to promote, foster, and facilitate the trust of colleagues and the broader College faculty. Prior administrative experience in an academic environment is required as is experience in the healthcare sector.
