Yesterday, the federal government released its first overall quality rating of 3,617 hospitals as a means of enabling consumers to have a simple way to gauge quality objectively. A new Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating methodology takes 64 existing quality measures already reported on the Hospital Compare website and summarizes them into a unified rating of one to five stars.
