Providing Dental, Vision, And Hearing Services Under Medicare

Dental, vision, and hearing services are not covered under Medicare, although a small minority of beneficiaries has supplemental private coverage or Medicaid coverage. A Brief from The Commonwealth Fund proposes a basic benefit package offered as a premium-financed voluntary insurance option. Assuming the benefit package could be offered for $25 per month, the total estimated coverage costs are $1.924 billion per year, paid for by premiums. Subsidies to reach low-income beneficiaries would follow the same design as the Part D subsidy.
