ASAHP Recognizes David Shelledy with Legacy of Excellence Award

The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP) is delighted to recognize David Shelledy, PhD, RRT, RPFT, FAARC, FASAHP, dean emeritus, School of Health Professions at The University of Texas at San Antonio, with the Legacy of Excellence Award.

This distinguished award recognizes an individual whose career is exemplary in terms of contributions to ASASHP as a national or internationally recognized leader in the health professions who publicly promotes the contributions of the health professions to the health care workforce on a national and/or international level and is a strong advocate for health sciences and health professions. Dr. Shelledy is only the 13th recipient to receive this award in ASAHP’s 59-year history. 

The award will be presented to Dr. Shelledy during ASAHP’s Annual Conference “Harmonizing the Future of Health Professions Education” which is scheduled for October 27-29, 2026 at the Embassy Suites by Hilton in Nashville, Tennessee. The Awards Ceremony session will take place on Wednesday, October 28 at 10:45 AM (CT), and all conference attendees are invited to attend.

Dr. David Shelledy has truly earned a place among this exceptional group,” said ASAHP President Jon Williamson, PhD, FASAHP, Dean of the School of Health Professions at UT Southwestern Medical Center. “Through his remarkable career of leadership, advocacy, and service, Dr. Shelledy has championed the vital role of the health professions in our health care workforce and has been a powerful advocate for health sciences and education. We are proud to honor a career that has left an enduring legacy for our profession and our association.”
