The Marieb College of Health & Human Services (MCHHS) at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) invites applications for a faculty member to serve as the Director of Interprofessional Simulation and Emerging Technology at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The anticipated start date is November 2026.
The Director will provide leadership for innovative approaches to digital and immersive learning across the college’s academic units, with a particular focus on interprofessional education, simulation, virtual reality, and emerging technologies. The position will also lead scholarship related to innovative technologies and coordinate research examining their effectiveness in enhancing student learning.
MCHHS currently maintains approximately 1,500 square feet of simulation space and is planning for continued expansion as part of a new building project. The college is investing in interprofessional simulation and emerging technologies across its disciplines to strengthen education, research, and healthcare delivery to the community and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities for this position include:
Overseeing the administrative operations of the Simulation Center, including financial management, budget planning, human resources, academic resources, space utilization, and operational needs.
Providing strategic leadership and management oversight for the Simulation Center, including long-term planning, mission and vision development, and implementation of organizational priorities.
Serving as the primary decision-maker within the scope of responsibility in consultation with the Dean and in accordance with university policies and procedures.
Directing and supervising Simulation Center staff and establishing performance expectations, accountability measures, and operational priorities.
Fostering interprofessional collaboration in teaching and learning and developing measurable outcomes for interprofessional simulation experiences across MCHHS.
Evaluating staffing and resource needs across the college to strengthen educational experiences and reduce duplication.
Evaluating and advancing emerging simulation technologies and innovative teaching methodologies.
Promoting interprofessional research and scholarship related to simulation, innovative technologies, and educational practices.
Identifying grants, partnerships, and other revenue opportunities to support the continued growth and sustainability of the Simulation Center.
Monitoring Center activities and stakeholder needs and implementing improvements as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution in a health-related discipline.
Certification in simulation through the Society for Simulation in Healthcare Certification Council.
Experience in academic leadership or supervisory roles, such as Program Coordinator/Director, Department Chair, or another relevant leadership position.
Current rank of Associate or Full Professor, or a record of academic and professional achievement that qualifies the candidate for appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level.
Preferred Qualifications
An additional master’s degree or certification in education and pedagogy.
Experience teaching courses related to aging or gerontology.
An established research agenda with evidence of extramural funding.
A demonstrated record of simulation research.
Experience with Interprofessional Education (IPE).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Candidates should demonstrate:
Knowledge of established simulation competency standards, including guidelines from the International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).
Knowledge of Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice.
Strong leadership, delegation, and team-development skills.
The ability to collaborate effectively with faculty across disciplines.
Experience building relationships with internal and external university stakeholders.
The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor faculty and students, and participate in professional seminars, workshops, and committees.
The ability to support continuing education programs.
Strong strategic thinking, creativity, reliability, accountability, and interpersonal skills.
