Background and aspirations for ASAHP

Hi,

I am Abraham Ndiwane, EdD, RN, CHES, an Associate Professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, (MGH IHP) School of Nursing in Boston MA, 02129. I am writing to seek re-election to continue as member on the Nominations and Elections Committee of The Association of Schools Advancing Health Professions (ASAHP). The past year as a member of the Nominations Committee of ASAHP has been very exciting and has provided many opportunities to strengthen my abilities to serve in more ways than one.

I have been able to hone in my skills in generating a slate of candidates for elections; process of filling committee vacancies; identifying, securing qualified candidates for respective positions and conducting elections, tallying and reporting results. I have served in leadership capacities at the MGH IHP, School of Nursing as chairperson of the Nominations Committee (2017-2019) and elected again for an addition two years (2019 -2021). During those years, I oversaw the recruitment of student representatives into committees as part of school governance process among other duties and functions.

Nationally, my leadership training at the National League for Nursing (a national voice for nursing education, leadership, research & policy) in Washington, DC (2016-2017) prepared me to lead our IHP School of Nursing faculty as SON Semester Coordinator & Core Courses Coordinator for over two years consecutively. In that role as faculty lead, my expertise in teamwork & collaboration with peers, enabled me to revise several core course objectives that were subsequently approved by our School of Nursing curriculum committee and adopted. I intend to utilize my committee and leadership expertise to fulfil expected roles and responsibilities of the Nominating Committee of ASAHP if elected for another term. I am looking forward to serving. Thank you

ASAHP Activities

Activity I: Recruitment of qualified candidates for committee positions
Activity II: Generating a slate of candidates for elections
Activities III: Reviewing and forwarding to Policy Committee any Committee bylaws for amendment (with member input) when they do not align with realities
Activity IV: Reporting to faculty/leadership about committee deliberations and seeking input.
Activity V: Reviewing term limits before they are due in order to conduct election, tally and report outcomes to prepare new Committee terms
