Background and aspirations for ASAHP
I am honored to submit my self-nomination for continued service on the Board of Directors of ASAHP. With a deep commitment to advancing health professions education, I bring a wealth of academic, research, and administrative experience that aligns with ASAHP’s mission of fostering interprofessional collaboration, leadership, excellence, and innovation.
I hold an M.H.A. (1995) in Health Administration from Saint Louis University and a Ph.D. (1999) in Health Services Research, with a minor in Economics, from the School of Public Health and the John Cook School of Business at Saint Louis University. My primary research interests include Burden of Disease and Chronic Care Management, Access and Utilization Studies, and Comparative International Research. Over the past 18 years, I have made significant scholarly contributions, securing over $1.6 million in funded research projects and publishing 42 refereed journal articles, four refereed book chapters, 35 refereed proceeding publications, four refereed abstracts, and four professional journal articles.
Beyond research, I have over 16 years of extensive administrative leadership experience, having served as Department Chair, Associate Dean, Dean, and Vice President for Academic Affairs. My leadership spans institutions of varying sizes and missions, from a small liberal arts college (King’s College) to a Carnegie high research-activity university (Duquesne University). As a recognized scholar and leader in healthcare management and health services research, I am well positioned to continue supporting ASAHP’s strategic initiatives.
Since joining the ASAHP Board in October 2021, I have actively contributed as the Board Champion for the ASAHP Opportunity and Engagement Committee, a member of the ASAHP Research, Discovery, and Innovation Committee, and a participant in the ASAHP International Task Force. Additionally, I was part of the Special Task Force convened by CHFNS International, Inc. and ASAHP to develop a certification program for global rehabilitation workers and served on the 2023 ASAHP Annual Conference Planning Committee. Outside ASAHP, I maintain active memberships in the AUPHA Online Program Directors Faculty Forum and the AUPHA Finance, Economics, and Insurance Faculty Forum. At Duquesne University, I contribute to the Clinical Education Task Force and the Health and Safety Task Force.
I would be privileged to continue leveraging my expertise to further ASAHP’s priorities, particularly in:
Advancing innovation in academic and clinical education program development.
Fostering interprofessional education and research collaborations.
Championing Opportunity and Engagement, ensuring best practices in recruiting and retaining diverse faculty, staff, and students.
My leadership style is entrepreneurial, visionary, and consensus-driven. I excel in cultivating partnerships between academia, industry, governmental agencies, and nonprofit organizations—both nationally and globally—providing valuable perspectives to the ASAHP Board.
With my extensive experience in academic program development, interprofessional education, and Opportunity and Engagement initiatives, I am eager to continue contributing meaningful insights and actionable strategies to advance ASAHP’s mission. Thank you for your time and consideration.
